The church of St. Crucis is the only baroque church in Erfurt whose high-quality and complete baroque interior has been preserved. This interior included a monumental and richly decorated organ facade by Franciscus Volckland from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century.

In 1998 we were commissioned to reconstruct the organ. In 2003 the reconstructed two-manual Volckland organ was able to sound again in praise of God.

Only a few of the 28 stops were preserved by Volckland. The greatest sensation was the turned Flaut douce 8′, which with its carved labium imitated the characteristic sound of a real recorder and is unique as an organ stop. It also specified the pitch of the organ, which is a semitone above normal at a’ = 465 Hz at 18 °C. The organ’s sound is also unique as an organ stop. The tuning was done after Kirnberger II.
